This teleconverter increases the power of a lens by a factor of 1.4 which may seam an odd amount but when you consider this equates to a only a one stop change compared to the traditional x2 teleconverter, like the TC2E, then you can see the thought process. In practice this teleconverter is a great addition to the AFS lenses, it isn’t designed to work with lenses other than the AF-I or AFS lenses as it requires the lens to carryout the focusing not using the cameras motor. There is no apparent loss in image sharpness or contract and being able to quickly add or remove magnification in the field is great for Wildlife photography.
