PhotoSecretary for F5
The photo secretary software for the F5 is split into three elements:
Shooting data
Custom settings
Control
Shooting data
This allows you to download shooting data from the camera. To do this a connection from the computer to the F5's 10pin connector is made using Nikon parts MC-33 for the PC and MC-31 for the Mac. The amount of information available is dependant on the settings of the camera and whether a MF-28 databack is fitted to the samera, options are:
This information once downloaded is held in film databases on your PC/Mac, you can then subsequently scan a thumbnail of your picture and associate this with the data.
Custom settings
With the custom settings you can set, store and recover the cameras custom functions. These are basically the same as the settings available on the camera but include a couple only available via the PC. The advantage here is the ability to restore your standard settings, have profiles for particular activities ie. wildlife, sport,
portrait and setup two cameras identically.
Control
The final element is computer control of the camera. Here all the functions of the camera can be used as though you were pressing the cameras buttons. Not very useful on a 1m lead but extend that to 30m and a remote wildlife shot and you can see it's
usefulness.
