The 500mm is a superb lens but when photographic birds in particular magnification is everything and when the opportunity to buy a 600 f4 APS came I took it. This is one big heavy lens, almost twice the weight of the 500 it needs a strong tripod and quality head. The power of the lens is staggering any yet again with being an f4 lens it can be combined with the TC14E to give a 840mm lens which still auto focuses. Don't skimp on the tripod and head when using this lens, it was the purchase of this lens that lead to me switching from my ball & socket head to the Wimberley Gimbal head and I must say that if you have anything from a 300mm f2.8 or bigger get this head it transforms their usability. |
